The Band
Jon Turner started his career by passing an audition to work with The Walker Brothers which was a great experience for a young guy. A few years later Jon ended up in Manchester with a cabaret trio – Sweet Chariot. Jon’s favourite instrument is the Hammond organ and his hero in those days was Roy Phillips from The Peddlers. With Sweet Chariot they supported Demis Roussos on his first British tour and at the end Jon accepted the job of Musical Director for him. Demis was a real character and Jon stayed with him for seven years and toured most of the world.
After all this Jon took a big interest in recording and producing and went back to Edinburgh to set up a recording studio. He produced and engineered the likes of Prefab Sprout, Deacon Blue and Runrig to name but a few. After twenty years of this he decided to cash in and relocate to Spain where he now operates the highly successful Steinways Jazz n’ Blues Club in downtown Denia.
Interestingly enough, Demis Roussos also played a major role in the early career of Dave Lewis who wrote his first platinum No. 1, Happy To Be On An Island in the Sun. Since then Dave has played to packed audiences the world over and his singer/songwriting talents have led him to support such greats as Don McLean and Van Morrison. Indeed, Dave recently opened fellow Irishman Van’s concert in Belfast and appeared on his 2005 album Magic Time. Dave, now based on the Costa Blanca continues to write from his home studio and makes guest appearances around the coast including a show stopping performance at the recent European Ladies Golf Tournament hosted by the Marriott Hotel, Denia. Dave was also responsible for staging the Georgie Fame and Madeline Bell concerts last year in Monte Pego and he has every intention of keeping quality live music alive in this neck of the woods.
